Weingut Tschida winner of Sweet wine maker of the year trophy

Outstanding, that is what Charles Metcalfe and Tim Atkin, Co-Chairmen of the International Wine Challenge IWC, said when they called Winegut Tschida ‘Sweet winemaker of the year’ for the 6th time. Not only did Tschida receive this award worldwide, they also received ‘Austrian Sweet Wine Trophy’ for the 88 Beerenauslese and numerous medals. Lisa Tschida and their daughter Daniela received the trophy at the IWC Awards Dinner in London. Hans Tschida about his great success: “I am so happy. Sweet wine is a beautiful product and it is wonderful when this is recognised.”
The IWC procedure: the Jury of the IWC, consisting of wine producers, wine journalists, wine traders and Masters of Wine, gets to taste thousands of wines from 40 different countries. The jury has six chairmen: Sarah Abbott MW, Tim Atkin MW, Oz Clarke, Dr. Jamie Goode, Charles Metcalfe and Peter McCombie MW. Every wine has to pass two tasting rounds before it can be rated. To receive a gold medal, the wine has to be rated with 95 to 100 points. Silver medal wines get 90 to 94 points and Bronze wines get 85 to 89 points.
The estate.
Weingut Tschida counts 35 hectares of vineyards in Seewinkel, Burgenland. Most
of the grapes grown here are Sämling 88, Welsch Riesling, Chardonnay, Muskat
Ottonel, Traminer and Weissburgunder. The Tschida wines can be found all over
the world.
