If that is not a reason to celebrate: Gambero Rosso has awarded Cantina Tramin’s Nussbaumer 2018 with Three Glasses, making it the 20th award in a row.
Since 1999 every new vintage of the Nussbaumer Gewürztraminer has received this award, thus becoming Italy’s most awarded Gewürztraminer in the history of this renowned Italian wine guide as well as the most awarded Gewürztraminer and one of the most awarded wines of Italy.
Cantina Tramin and the Gewürztraminer variety
Cantina Tramin, established in 1898, is one of the oldest cooperatives in Alto Adige and today comprises 160 families tending to approximately 260 hectares of vineyards in Tramin and its surroundings. Cantina Tramin’s commitment to this grape variety is mostly due to its winemaker’s passion for Gewürztraminer. For more than 20 years Willi Stürz has given a new twist to this grape variety that was once considered old-fashioned. Year after year he has been creating this dry Gewürztraminer, which is versatile, incredibly fresh and complex at the same time. The 20th award by Gambero Rosso confirms the path chosen by Willi: “For many years now we have put our passion into this grape, which is part of our identity. Our Gewürztraminers stand out and are very different from other Gewürztraminers from other parts of the world. Ours are primarily fresh and aromatic and despite their intensity their aromas are delicate and sublime. We are firm supporters of the dry style Gewürztraminer, which is typical for Alto Adige and has become popular and famous in Italy and beyond.”
